On Saturday in a briefing with FEMA, other government agencies, and local officials President Barack Obama said the country had no patience for red tape or bureaucracy during the recovery from hurricane Sandy.

"There's nothing more important than getting this right," the president said at the beginning of a briefing with officials from the?Federal Emergency Management Administration, the?Department of Homeland Security, and state and local governments.

The governors of New York, New?Jersey?and?Connecticut?were among elected officials participating in the video briefing on efforts to help the?East Coast states reeling from Monday's storm that left 102 dead, millions without power, and whole neighborhoods destroyed by flooding.

Obama said people working on rescue and relief efforts are making a "120 percent" effort, but urged those providing disaster relief to work without delay.

"We don't have patience for bureaucracy. We don't have patience for red tape," the president said in remarks three days ahead of his election showdown with Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Relief efforts are focusing on restoring power and pumping water out of flooded areas, Obama said. Efforts are also concentrated on meeting the needs of people affected by the storm, removing debris, and positioning?National Guard?in areas where they can be helpful, he added.

Another way to take a pill that cannot be crushed and doesn?t come in any other form is to hide it in a spoonful of pudding or applesauce. This works with any age adult and makes swallowing the pill much easier when it is taken as a bite of food. Mind over matter plus the soft spoonful of good tasting food makes it easier to forget that you are also swallowing medication. Avoid taking to many pills at one time this way to decrease the chance of choking.

Finding a way to take a needed medication can be a challenge but it is worth the?effort to get the medication you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Particle and wave-like behavior of light measured simultaneously

ScienceDaily (Nov. 1, 2012) ? What is light made of: waves or particles? This basic question has fascinated physicists since the early days of science. Quantum mechanics predicts that photons, particles of light, are both particles and waves simultaneously. Reporting in Science, physicists from the University of Bristol give a new demonstration of this wave-particle duality of photons, dubbed the 'one real mystery of quantum mechanics' by Nobel Prize laureate Richard Feynman.

The history of science is marked by an intense debate between the particle and wave theories of light. Isaac Newton was the main advocate of the particle theory, while James Clerk Maxwell and his greatly successful theory of electromagnetism, gave credit to the wave theory. However, things changed dramatically in 1905, when Einstein showed that it was possible to explain the photoelectric effect (which had remained a complete mystery until then) using the idea that light is made of particles: photons. This discovery had a huge impact on physics, as it greatly contributed to the development of quantum mechanics -- the most accurate scientific theory ever developed.

Despite its success, quantum mechanics presents a tremendous challenge to our everyday intuition. Indeed, the theory predicts with a remarkable accuracy the behaviour of small objects such as atoms and photons. However, when taking a closer look at these predictions, we are forced to admit that they are strikingly counter-intuitive. For instance, quantum theory predicts that a particle (for instance a photon) can be in different places at the same time. In fact it can even be in infinitely many places at the same time, exactly as a wave. Hence the notion of wave-particle duality, which is fundamental to all quantum systems.

Surprisingly, when a photon is observed, it behaves either as a particle or as a wave. But both aspects are never observed simultaneously. In fact, which behaviour it exhibits depends on the type of measurement it is presented with. These astonishing phenomena have been experimentally investigated in the last few years, using measurement devices that can be switched between wave-like and particle-like measurements.

In a paper published Nov. 1 in Science, physicists from the University of Bristol give a new twist on these ideas. Dr Alberto Peruzzo, Peter Shadbolt and Professor Jeremy O'Brien from the Centre for Quantum Photonics teamed up with quantum theorists Dr Nicolas Brunner and Professor Sandu Popescu to devise a novel type of measurement apparatus that can measure both particle and wave-like behaviour simultaneously. This new device is powered by quantum nonlocality, another strikingly counter-intuitive quantum effect.

Dr Peruzzo, Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Photonics, said: "The measurement apparatus detected strong nonlocality, which certified that the photon behaved simultaneously as a wave and a particle in our experiment. This represents a strong refutation of models in which the photon is either a wave or a particle."

Professor O'Brien, Director of the Centre for Quantum Photonics, said: "To conduct this research, we used a quantum photonic chip, a novel technology pioneered in Bristol. The chip is reconfigurable so it can be programmed and controlled to implement different circuits. Today this technology is a leading approach in the quest to build a quantum computer and in the future will allow for new and more sophisticated studies of fundamental aspects of quantum phenomena."

famaPR: Reinventing PR But Preserving a Culture | BostInno

When you?re selling people, not products, company culture couldn?t be more crucial. The team you?re building needs to be carefully cultivated from the very beginning?an area fama PR has continued to keep its focus on for the last 10 years.

When bringing on new employees, Harrison claims they look for one critical skill: common sense. ?If you can?t find a way to justify what you?re doing in order to fulfill a customer?s goal, you probably shouldn?t be doing it,? he says. Yet, because teams are working with multiple customers, they also need to have the agility to transfer between projects and the ability to realize that what they prescribed for one client isn?t what they should prescribe for another.

Each company has a unique story?one it?s fama PR?s job to flesh out. Years ago, when Harrison tried explaining his job to unfamiliar outsiders, he would say, ?Advertising is selling the story, PR is telling the story.? As media consumption continues to change, fama PR has been focused largely on content, whether that means writing op-eds for clients or creating company blogs. ?Writing has become more important than ever before to our business,? Harrison admits.

Too often, PR firms immediately dive into social media and put all their focus on that. fama PR has opted to step back, however, and develop a more measured approach, realizing social media isn?t the most critical aspect of telling a brand?s story. Harrison jokingly calls clients? craze for followers ?shiny object syndrome,? and sees social media more as a way to extend the shelf life of a story, rather than as the sole tool for promotion. ?We?ve always approached things a little differently than other industries,? he admits.

And that sentiment spreads beyond the normal day-to-day. Repeatedly ranked as one of the ?Best Places to Work? in Boston, fama PR has been known to host Baggo tournaments on their sun deck in the Innovation District or wellness challenges for their employees. Over the summer, a yoga instructor visited the office once a week, and the team competed against each other, striving to eat healthier and exercise more. Because the team is on email so much, Harrison sees this as a way to force people out of their seats and talking, saying, ?This helps build collaboration and camaraderie.?

The team takes their work seriously, and created a ?no junior account executives? policy early on that they?ve only recently started to ease up on. As a team of six, the policy made sense, because clients felt as though they were getting VP-level service from everyone on the entire team for the same price as fama PR?s early competitors. Although they?ve now dabbled in hiring entry-level people, Harrison admits they haven?t shifted their focus too much, ?because [they're]?winning more business because of that.?

Earlier this year, fama PR did expand their offices, however. And lucky for you, they have several open positions. ?We have some space that we want to fill out,? Harrison says. So, get to applying.

Visit five (real!) historic locations in 'Assassin's Creed 3'

It may be just a video game, but if you play "Assassin's Creed 3," you will most certainly walk away from the game with a unique ? and at times stunningly accurate ? view of Revolutionary War-era America.

Sure, this best-selling action-adventure?game series features time-travelling assassins and whole lot of science fiction, but the Assassin's Creed?games are also know for taking players on a journey through?fascinating?moments in our very real history and for putting those moments on display in stunning?digital?detail.

For "Assassins' Creed 3," which launches today, the developers at Ubisoft are taking players to the colonial?America of the mid-to-late 1700s?where they?have gone to great lengths to recreate real-world locations from the Revolutionary War in highly accurate detail.

Not only did they build digital versions of locales from Boston to New York, they?take us to?the American frontier various colonial settlements. And?while gamers will?play the entirely?fictional?Connor Kenway?? the?son of a Native American mother and British father bent on revenge and freedom ? they will also?meet very real figures from history such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Paul Revere.

"The goal was to make the game as historically accurate as possible,"?Maxime Durand, a historian?brought on to work on the?game, told me in a recent interview. With that in mind, he spent two and a half?years extensively researching the period. He says he did so much research that, during that time, he compiled?160 gigabytes of historical documents, images and data as reference.

And it wasn't just the look of the cities and?landscapes?of?time period that he and the team at Ubisoft tried to build into the game. They tried to make the people that?players?encounter in the game?? both the?famous?and the everyday kind ??as realistic as possible, down to the vocabulary they used, the clothes they wore and the jobs they performed during that era. Durand says he?even researched and put to use?some of the curse words popular?at that time.

All in all, Durand says 10 to?15 times more research went into this game's history than went into any other Assassin's Creed game.?The result:?"If you just stand and look around the city of Boston for example, it will feel like you?re actually there in that time period," he said.

In fact,?Durand?said that, ultimately, the goal in recreating a city like Boston was to make it so accurate that if you were to pluck someone from that time period and drop them into the game, they would be able to find their way around the streets.

Since sightseeing via?time travel?isn't actually possible yet, we'll have to settle on "Assassin's Creed 3."?Here's a look at five very real?locations from America's ?revolutionary history that can visit in this game.?

Boston Common
These days, the Boston Common ? which you'll find situated in the heart?of the?Massachusetts?city ? holds the honor of being the oldest public?park in the United States. But the Boston Common of today looks very different than what you'll see in "Assassin's Creed 3," which depicts the sprawling pasture lands as they were before and?during the Revolutionary War.

Durand explains that, during this period, the British used?the Common as a camp and it was from?here that they set off for various battles at Lexington and Concord.?He?says they used engravings from the time to help them build an accurate version the Common, complete with some of the rolling hills that would later be?leveled?off.

Old North Church
When it comes to the Revolutionary War, the Old North Church in Boston is perhaps?best known as the place where American rebels?were warned of the arrival of the British army.

Paul Revere had asked three patriots in Boston (including the church sexton) to hang?lanterns?high in the church?to let the patriot fighters?in Charleston know how the British troops were arriving. As the famous line from the poem?"Paul Revere's Ride"?goes: "One if by land, and?two if by sea." The?Bostonians?hung two lanterns, warning that the British were?advancing via?the Charles River. It was to be the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

The?Old North Church's?steeple has been twice destroyed since being built in 1723. For?"Assassin's Creed 3," the developers?attempted to recreate it as it looked?in 1775.

Faneuil Hall
This Boston?building isn't called "the Cradle of Liberty" for nothing. The?location features prominently in "Assassin's Creed 3" as the game?depicts some of the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War.?

As the website for the historical building?explains:

It was at Faneuil Hall in 1764 that Americans first protested against the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act, setting the doctrine that would come to be known as "no taxation without representation." Gatherings to protest the Stamp Act, the Townshend Act, and the Redcoat occupation would follow, as would one of the first in a series of meetings that would culminate in the Boston Tea Party.

Old State House
Built almost 300 years ago, this famed building was a place where the people gathered to debate the British occupation and its unfair taxation. And it was in front of this building that the?Boston Massacre took place?in 1770.

But Durant said that due to some changes to the building?over the years,?recreating the aging?state house exactly as it was before and during?the revolution?presented?a bit of a challenge for the "Assassin's Creed 3" team. "We used a lot of engravings from the period and photos from the 19th and early 20th centuries and tried to keep it as accurate as possible to the original architecture," he said.

Old South Meeting House
Built in 1729 as a place for Puritan worship, this building became that starting point for the Boston Tea Party come 1773. It was on?Dec. 16 of that year that thousands of colonists gathered at this building, all fired up about the?British tendency toward taxation without representation.

And if you paid attention in history class, you know what happened next. Some?these people headed to Boston Harbor, boarded three British tea ships (dressed as?Mohawk?Indians)?and dumped more than 300 chests of tea into the water.
