CBS to air Cowboys over Texans in most of Texas / Nation

This article came out today in the chronicle. I'm originally from West Texas which is Cowboy country, but I know a lot of people who are now following the Texans and will be upset when they realize. I think they should air the team with the best record but it is all about ratings. Thoughts?

Even though the Texans are tied for the best record in the NFL, they?ll play second fiddle to the Cowboys for most of the country Sunday on CBS.

Both Texas teams have noon kickoffs on CBS, with Dallas hosting Cleveland and Houston hosting Jacksonville. The Texans game will air in 7 percent of the country, including Houston on KHOU (Channel 11) plus CBS affiliates in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Bryan-College Station and Victoria. The rest of the state will get the Dallas game, which will go to 57 percent of the nation in the CBS noon window.

This is one of the rare weekends when the Cowboys appear on CBS, forcing CBS affiliates in Austin, San Antonio and other Texas markets to choose one broadcast or the other.

In a message on its Facebook page, officials with KEYE, the Austin CBS affiliate, wrote, ?This is one of only a few that CBS is allowed to carry and CBS has assigned us the Cowboys game. While we agree, the Texans are playing phenomenally this season (and last for that matter), CBS typically assigns the Dallas game to most Texas stations when they have both games available to them.

?From CBS? viewpoint, it wants to air the game that will have the highest viewership and even in Austin, that would be the Dallas game. When the Cowboys and Texans go head to head, the Cowboys pull twice the audience that the Texans do. We feel your frustration, but hopefully the explanation as to why we are airing Dallas helps a little.?
